10/16/2013 La Jolla Scuba Diving Conditions

What a beautiful day!
Sunshine is beaming down from above, and not a cloud in the sky. Visibility at the cove is wonderful - with a bit of a green 10′ in the shallows, expanding to an amazing 30-40′ past the A buoy, nice and blue and very little current. Really beautiful diving out there, and the Shores is wonderful as well!
Warm, no surf to speak of, very little surge - go get in the water.

Visibility: ~20-40′ La Jolla Cove & Shores
Temperature: 67F at the surface, 60F on the bottom
Swell height: 1-2′ Cove and Shores

It’s staying beautiful out! Another cloudless, hot San Diego day that makes the cool ocean water feel great as it slides in through your wetsuit zipper. Decent visibility at both La Jolla Shores and La Jolla Cove, with very little swell or surf to speak of, although some surge was definitely present. 10-20′ at La Jolla Cove (better farther out), and about the same at La Jolla Shores. 68F at the surface, 60F down at 45 feet, and then a third thermocline at 75 feet and a chilly 53F. Good day for diving!

Temperature: 67F at the surface, 60F on the bottom
Swell height: 1-2′ Cove and Shores, occasional 3′

9/27/2013 La Jolla Scuba Diving Conditions

Surprisingly nice yesterday! Swell at the cove is very, very minimal where La Jolla Shores is getting some surf for a change. Visibility at the shores, despite the surf and currents was a clear blue 30′ in the shallows, with anywhere from 15-25′ in the canyon and a warm 58F. Scuba diving La Jolla Cove was nice, but the visibility was very cloudy and the bottom 5′ throughout the kelp forest is very murked up. Some serious surge as well, 10-15′ (better outside the buoy).

Visibility: ~10-15′ La Jolla Cove and 15-25′ La Jolla Shores
Temperature: 67F at the surface, 58F on the bottom
Swell height: 1-2′ Cove and 2-4′ Shores

9/25/2013 La Jolla Scuba Diving Conditions

It’s easing off a little bit! Swell has come down, and wind is fairly low - it’s a very, very flat day in La Jolla!
Visibility is coming back in the shallows, and is a nice 15′ below the thermocline around 45′. Good day to get in the water, let’s hope it continues to get better!

Visibility: ~15′ La Jolla Cove and La Jolla Shores
Temperature: 67F at the surface, 57F on the bottom
Swell height: 1-2′ Cove and Shores

9/23/2013 La Jolla Scuba Diving Conditions

Swell isn’t quite backing off yet! Big sets coming through, although little wind and a cloudless sky it is unfortunately very murky down below, with heavy surge. Might be one to sit out!

Visibility: ~3-10′ La Jolla Shores and La Jolla Cove
Temperature: 67F at the surface, 58F on the bottom
Swell height: 2-5′ Cove and Shores

9/22/2013 La Jolla Scuba Diving Conditions

Wind looks very soft this morning, with nice glassy conditions. Clearer water, with the occasional larger set coming through… clouds have cleared up already. Should be a beautiful day for diving!

Temperature: 67F at the surface, 57F on the bottom
Swell height: 2-3′ Cove and Shores

9/21/2013 La Jolla Scuba Diving Conditions

Conditions are clearing up! Swell is calming down a little bit, and that blue water clarity is beginning to come back to La Jolla. We’re seeing less and less bioluminescence at night, so as the algae continues to clear the water should keep getting clearer!

Visibility: ~10-20′ La Jolla Shores, ~15′ La Jolla Cove
Temperature: 67F at the surface, 57F on the bottom
Swell height: 2-3′ Cove and Shores

9/19/2013 La Jolla Scuba Diving Conditions

It’s pretty murky out there, and has been so for the past week. Our first real swell since the past 2 months has come through, peaking yesterday and bringing surgy and murkier conditions. Water is a pleasant 67F at the surface, and a fairly warm 57F on the bottom however!

Visibility: ~10-12′ La Jolla Shores, ~5-12′ La Jolla Cove
Temperature: 67F at the surface, 57F on the bottom
Swell height: 2′ Cove and Shores, occasional 4′ sets

9/9/2013 La Jolla Scuba Diving Conditions

Red tide seems to be slowly backing off, it’s still red at the surface and down to about 25-30 feet, but the canyon opens up very nicely after that depth to about 20′ of visiblity!
Little cold down there though, at about 54F. Weather is still beautiful, so get out for a dive.

Visibility: ~5-10′ La Jolla Cove and La Jolla Shores below the thermocline, 20-25′ below!
Temperature: 66F at the surface, 54F on the bottom
Swell height: 2-3′ Cove and Shores

9/7/2013 La Jolla Scuba Diving Conditions

Still red at the surface, but opening up a little bit down below. Cove is beginning to look nice as well, and there was not quite as much bio luminescence last night as previously. Hard to say for certain yet, but red tide may be slowly backing off!

Visibility: ~5-15′ La Jolla Cove and La Jolla Shores
Temperature: 71F at the surface, 60F on the bottom
Swell height: 2-3′ Cove and Shores
